[edit] Gameplay

Virtua Fighter stands out among other fighting games at the time in that it relied on a control stick and three buttons, Punch, Kick and Guard, although different situations and combinations unlocked a variety of different moves for each character.

The game was and still is highly acclaimed for its in-depth fighting and realistic portrayals of the fighting styles of each of the characters and was considered revolutionary when it was first released.

[edit] Trivia

  • An Arab fighter named Siba was planned, and his character model even appeared on some Virtua Fighter cabinets (though in some cases, he appeared under the name, Akira). He was discarded, but later returned in the Sega Saturn's Fighters MegaMix.
