The gameplay in Virtua Fighter 2 remains largely the same as its precedessor but with a few tweaks. Virtua Fighter 2's was known at the time for its revolutionary graphics. It used Sega's Model 2 arcade hardware to run the game at 60 frames per second at a high resolution with no slowdown. The Saturn version was also extremely impressive for its time, considering the system's 3D programming difficulties. The arena size could be adjusted at will to a whopping 82 meters, which in the versus fighter game genre is considered huge. Unfortunately, this is the only game in the series to give players the freedom to do so, as the later installments have fixed arena sizes and even walls.
