Virtua Fighter 3
From Virtuapedia English
Virtua Fighter 3 is the third game in the Virtua Fighter series. Two new characters were added to the roster: Aoi Umenokouji, a young, beautiful Japanese woman who is a childhood friend of Akira Yuki and Taka-Arashi, a sumo wrestler from Japan. Taka was not featured in subsequent Virtua Fighter games until Virtua Fighter 5 R because the game could not handle the technical implications of having a considerably larger character.

[edit] Gameplay
Virtua Fighter 3 was a revolutionary game from a technical standpoint with detailed graphics earning praise from critics and gamers alike. Characters' eyes now appeared to track the opponent's position, muscles could flex and relax and Dural, the game's boss, was now made from a metallic substance that reflected the environment around it.
Changes to the gameplay were also made such as stages now being undulated, for example the Great Wall stage which contained a staircase and another set atop a sloping roof.
However, the biggest change by far was the introduction of a fourth button, the Dodge button, (the series had only used three in previous Virtua Fighter games - Punch, Kick and Guard) which was used to evade enemy attacks. This evasion technique enabled players to dodge incoming attacks and counter-attacks almost immediately. After Virtua Fighter 3, Sega subsequently removed undulating stages as well as the Dodge button.
Virtua Fighter 3 was intended to be ported to the Sega Saturn, but the Saturn could not handle the game and the graphics were forced to be reduced. Virtua Fighter 3 was intended to be for the Dreamcast but was delayed. Eventually, when it was realeased, it wasn't nearly as successful as it was in Japan. This may have been because Soulcalibur had arguably claimed to be the Dreamcast's stable fighter in North America.
[edit] Virtua Fighter 3: Team Battle
An updated version of Virtua Fighter 3 called Virtua Fighter 3: Team Battle was released about a year after. This version featured battles between teams of various fighters, another after one is defeated. It was later released on the Sega Dreamcast and was one of the launch games, later becoming one of the best-selling games on the Dreamcast.
